Opening Prayer
Kind and gracious Lord, you are the creator of all things, the author of life, and our loving God. We thank you for your faithful presence in our lives, and we thank you for the Word of God.
As we prepare to study your Word together, we ask you to open our minds. Help us clear away the clutter and quiet any outside voices so we can hear only what you long to speak to us.
Scripture: Psalm 145:1-5 (Common English Bible)
I will lift you up high, my God, the true king.
I will bless your name forever and always.
2 I will bless you every day.
I will praise your name forever and always.
3 The Lord is great and so worthy of praise!
God’s greatness can’t be grasped.
4 One generation will praise your works to the next one,
proclaiming your mighty acts.
5 They will talk all about[b] the glorious splendor of your majesty;
I will contemplate your wondrous works.
Summary:
For the month of November, we join in a a sermon series on gratitude for God’s grace and mercy.
We thank God for saints. Because of their testimony, we know God’s wondrous works. We praise God from generation to generation!
Reflection Questions:
- What is a word, phrase or image that comes to mind when you read or hear the text?
- In this scripture, the testimony God’s mighty acts is to be passed on generation to generation. Do you remember the testimony of a saint that has gone home to be with the Lord? What is their story that inspires you? What about their testimony reminds you of how great God is?
- What does this scripture teach you about saints?
- What does God invite you to do, change or be through this passage?

Closing Prayer
God, who lifts up the humble, give us guidance to see how we might be part of your mission of the redemption of the world. Give us the hands of compassion to extend your love and grace. Amen.
