John 20:11-14 (Common English Bible)

11 Mary stood outside near the tomb, crying. As she cried, she bent down to look into the tomb. 12 She saw two angels dressed in white, seated where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head and one at the foot. 13 The angels asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” She replied, “They have taken away my Lord, and I don’t know where they’ve put him.” 14 As soon as she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there…

Summary:

On this Easter/Resurrection Sunday and we complete our worship series No Ordinary Love. On this day, we celebrate the hope and promise that comes with the resurrection of Jesus. God’s extraordinary love is fully revealed, where even in death, we find life by the grace of God!

Mary Magdalene’s love for Jesus led her to care for him through her grief. When she goes to Jesus’ tomb, she notices the body isn’t there, reports it to the disciples and while they leave, she stays. By staying, she encounters two angels who point her to the resurrected Christ. When we continue to live in love, we do so with hope and promise that God will be revealed anew. By living in God’s love through the hard times, we live in hope before we see signs of Resurrection. Mary shows us that love lives long before resurrection comes and with the resurrection the fullness of God’s love is revealed!

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does Resurrection mean to you?
  2. How has God brought resurrection in your life?
  3. What Resurrection and you praying and working for?
