Acts 4:8-11 (Common English Bible)
8 Then Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, answered, “Leaders of the people and elders, 9 are we being examined today because something good was done for a sick person, a good deed that healed him? 10 If so, then you and all the people of Israel need to know that this man stands healthy before you because of the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. 11 This Jesus is the stone you builders rejected; he has become the cornerstone!
Summary: Christ is Risen! Throughout Eastertide, we worship with the theme, “We,” for we are a people of the resurrection, we are the risen body of Christ!
In this scripture, Peter and John were arrested and put in prison for teaching about the resurrection of Jesus. The promise of resurrection is not welcome by those who profit from sickness and death. Peter testifies that the Jesus is the source of healing and though rejected in crucifixion, his resurrection is our cornerstone of our hope. As a people of the resurrection, we believe that God makes the victim the victor. We believe that because Jesus was resurrected from the dead, God will resurrect us from death to new life. We are believers.
Reflection Questions:
- Peter’s teaching challenged the leaders’ and elders’ beliefs. In what way has your belief been challenged over the years?
- Why is it important to believe in the resurrection of Jesus?
- What “resurrection” are you praying for right now?
