Mark 6:53-56 (Common English Bible)

53 When Jesus and his disciples had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret, anchored the boat, 54 and came ashore. People immediately recognized Jesus 55 and ran around that whole region bringing sick people on their mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 Wherever he went—villages, cities, or farming communities—they would place the sick in the marketplaces and beg him to allow them to touch even the hem of his clothing. Everyone who touched him was healed.

Summary:  A miracle is “an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs.” There is healing power in touch. Touch can hurt, but there is profound beauty in the healing power of touch.

In this scripture, people flock to Jesus because they believe that by touching him, they will be healed. Miracles happen when we touch and are touched by the Divine. For Jesus, beauty is not something to behold, but beauty is something we do. Through the power of touch, Jesus makes miracles happen and gives us the power to do miracles as well!

Reflection Questions:

  1. Of the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch) what is unique about the sense of touch?
  2. Have you experience healing from the power of touch?
  3. How has God touched and healed you?
