Luke 14:28-30 (Common English Bible)

28 “If one of you wanted to build a tower, wouldn’t you first sit down and calculate the cost, to determine whether you have enough money to complete it?  29 Otherwise, when you have laid the foundation but couldn’t finish the tower, all who see it will begin to belittle you.  30 They will say, ‘Here’s the person who began construction and couldn’t complete it!’

Summary:

Based on the book by Dr. Candace M. Lewis and Dr. Rodney T. Smothers, Resurgence is a movement toward renewal, revival and recovery of relevance in ministry. This month, we explore our calling to surge forward as followers of Jesus and in ministry with our community.

In order to “resurge,” Jesus teaches us the importance of planning ahead and preparing for the future. The revival of the church doesn’t come from a singular event, but in deep discernment and strategic planning.

Without a plan, we may find ourselves beginning construction and not finishing! As Drs. Lewis and Smothers ask in their book, “Are we ready to stop wandering in circles or are we ready to go in a new direction?” As discern and follow the plan for the future, there will be revival!

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does it feel like to start and not finish?
  2. How do you feel when you’ve finished what you started?
  3. With revival, God completes a new work in the church. What must the church do to prepare for revival?
