John 20:17-18 (Common English Bible)
17 Jesus said to Mary, “Don’t hold on to me, for I haven’t yet gone up to my Father. Go to my brothers and sisters and tell them, ‘I’m going up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
18 Mary Magdalene left and announced to the disciples, “I’ve seen the Lord.” Then she told them what he said to her.
Summary:
Throughout the season of Lent, we journeyed with Jesus as he experienced the wilderness. We love Jesus because he has been where we are and is with us in the midst of our wilderness experiences. Just as we walked through the wilderness, Jesus also leads us to resurrection.
After Jesus’ crucifixion, Mary Magdelene goes to the tomb to discover that his body is no longer there. Jesus appears to her to assure her that he is alive and to tell the rest of the disciples that he is risen. She testifies that she “has seen the Lord!” In the midst of harrowing circumstances, we to have seen the Lord. It may be difficult to recognize God among us, but if we look closely, the Lord is near.
