Zechariah 2:1-5 (New Revised Standard Version)

1 I looked up and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand. 2 Then I asked, “Where are you going?” He answered me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.” 3 Then the angel who talked with me came forward, and another angel came forward to meet him, 4 and said to him, “Run, say to that young man: Jerusalem shall be inhabited like villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and animals in it. 5 For I will be a wall of fire all around it, says the Lord, and I will be the glory within it.”

Summary:

For the month of October, we will journey through the scriptures and be reminded that in the midst of challenging and trying times, we can “sing the Lord’s song in a strange land.”  It may take time to learn some new lyrics, sing in a new key or build the confidence to sing at all, but the Psalms show us there that we are able to discover trust, love, hope and peace when we are able to sing the Lord’s Song!

Zechariah reminds Jerusalem that it is to be a village without walls. When we erect walls to keep others out, we strive to keep the fullness of God’s promise to dwell within us.
