Mark 9:38-40 (Common English Bible)

38 John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone throwing demons out in your name, and we tried to stop him because he wasn’t following us.”

39 Jesus replied, “Don’t stop him. No one who does powerful acts in my name can quickly turn around and curse me. 40 Whoever isn’t against us is for us.

Summary:

The disciples want a stranger to stop doing miracles because they couldn’t get credit. Jesus tells them, “Whoever is not against us is for us.” We need to change our perspective to discover who are real friends and allies are.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Why would the disciples try to stop someone from doing good?
  2. What does Jesus mean when he says “Whoever is not against us is for us.”
  3. How is God calling you to change your perspective?
